Catch OSINT Combine at MilCIS 2024: Exploring the Dark Web and MFA Threats.
The Military Communications and Information Systems Conference and Expo is back from 12-14 November at the National Convention Centre in Canberra Australia. As a key event in military communications and information systems, MilCIS brings together Department of Defence personnel, industry leaders, contractors, and researchers to discuss current and evolving technological capabilities, project initiatives, and operational requirements.
Our Head of Intelligence Services, Emerald Sage, will be presenting on “How the Cookie Crumbles: What OSINT Tells Us About Dark Web Cookie Sales and Implications for MFA,” on November 13, from 1:30-2:30 PM in the Nicholls Theatre. This presentation delves into the rise of cookie theft and its impact on multi-factor authentication (MFA) security.
Emerald’s session will unpack findings from the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner’s (OAIC) 2024 report, which highlights the predominance of compromised credentials in data breaches across Australia. While MFA is widely adopted to mitigate these risks, cyber actors have evolved to exploit cookie theft, enabling them to hijack active sessions and bypass MFA.
In this live demonstration, we will simulate a cookie theft session and explore the role of OSINT in tracking cookie theft's commercialization on the surface, deep, and dark web. Attendees will gain insights into Dark Web environments and learn techniques for safe navigation and identification of cookie theft-related activity.
